    Very Smelly!, 10/28/2012

    ZooHandler from Raleigh, NC

This is great on my budget, but it make for very smelly poops!! Think rotted breast milk meets week old food garbage. Its so bad that my little guy won't use his litter box if he's gone in it even once. It offends both his nose and mine! It also made his poops very soft. He doesn't seem to mind the flavor, meaning he eats it without complaint. After this bag is gone, we will most likely be going back to our favorite kitten food or at least blending it with this product. (the kitten food poops were very limited odor fyi)

    Junk food, 2/25/2012

    whiskandbowl from Lock Haven PA

My second ferret came eating this food. Unfortunately, it's full of corn, corn, and more corn. His coat was not nice at all and he pooped constantly. I switched him to my preferred mix (8in1 Crunchy, Wellness Core, and Natures Variety Instinct Duck) and he is doing very well. Poops much less and it doesn't smell. Ferrets can only digest 2 of the first 6 ingredients of this food, not worth the cost in my eyes.

    They changed the formula!, 2/16/2012

    Amy from florida

My ferret used to love this food until recently. When I opened the new bag it looked, smelled, and even the texture is different. My ferret is very picky and I tried feeding him for 3 days which he just gagged and spit out. I switched him to another brand and is eating again. I will not be buying this anymore. On pet approval, I put one star because it will not allow me to put zero stars

    Angie from Lacey, WA

I was using the Marshall brand originally, then did some research on the ingredients and found that this is actually healthier for them. I made the switch and all 6 of my ferrets love it! Not to mention its a lot cheaper too!

I've tried the rest...THIS is the best!, 8/27/2011

    MARY MANCUSO from Metairie, LA

After getting our three ferrets I went along and purchased Marshall food...then I purchased Zupreem afterwards...let me tell you one thing I noticed about those two (even though they are rated really highly by others) the fuzzies poop stunk REALLY REALLY BAD! And the consistency of it was terrible (especially considering how often you clean up after them!) Then I read a review from another person who had tried the same foods as I had and had the same results until she tried 8 in 1! The poop isn't as smelly and the consistency is a bit harder so its easy to pick up...thank GOD I tried it...you won't be sorry!

Not the best but better than some!, 5/29/2011

    CDS from Pittsburgh PA

I lost my job for almost 2 years and had four fuzzies to care for. I would have been lost had I given them up and luckily I had a family member not want to see me lose them either. This food while not the best helped. It was affordable and even paying twice this price at chain pet stores, the girls were happy. I mixed it with a cheaper kitten chow and they made by just fine on this diet. No coat loss, weight loss, runny poo, or any other issues people are stating. I've had my girls on a mixture of Marshall's and Zupreem (Vet recommended) and they not only STUNK to high heaven, they had awful poops. EVO isn't available in my area and other ferret diets are horrid. I now (working full time again) mix this in with 8-1 Ultimate Crunchy diet and they do great. I have picky eaters and they love this stuff. I wouldn't recommend using this alone for months at a time in their diet, but heck I've still met "ferret lovers" feeding their fur kids raisins by the handful, cucumbers, bananas, and a whole mess of other stuff ferrets shouldn't eat so I can't see this food being all that bad. If your ferret has a bad reaction to a food product see your vet and take them off it! Make sure you're feeding the right level of protein and fats and try to get the best food possible. Using this as an easy filler to make what little of the quality food you buy last isn't too bad of an idea. I even make sure they get outside vitamin supplements to keep their little insides happy and healthy as added protection.

Not as bad as the other reviews are saying, 12/11/2010

    Barbra from

When I first adopted my ferrets I started them on this food. They loved it! Then due to the fact that the nearest store that sold it was an hour drive away I had to switch to a brand that a local feed store carried. BIG MISTAKE! Shortly after one of my fuzzies developed pancreatic tumors...so I switched yet again to a different brand...EVO. Now my fuzzies have beautiful coats, but my males are overweight! As per vet recommendation, I'm going to start mixing this in with their EVO to help get their weight down and make their poops less runny.

Worst Food I've Ever Bought, 10/13/2010

    Kristen from

I have had ferrets for the last 6 years and tried this food for I don't know what reason but I almost lost two of my ferrets after switching to this garbage. They lost so much weight and the dehydration that followed has cost me over $500 in vet bills. This food is trash. I don't recommend it for the raccoons who dug it out of my garbage. Switched my kids immediately back to their old food and they are different ferrets - health is still on the mend but we are getting there. Save yourself the heartache and vet bills - buy a better quality food.

    Shiny coats- happy ferrets, 5/28/2009

    Hope from Chicago, IL

I've been feeding my seven fuzzies this product for about 2 1/2 years. They love the taste and I like the reasonable price. I've shopped around for a high protein diet for them, but unfortunately found that no one single ferret food fills every single nutritional need. It's like us eating only broccoli every day and nothing else (Good for you but nutritional gaps will occur. Variety is necessary) So, I simply mix my 8-N-1 with high protein Purina Kitten Chow (50% each). Weeks after I started doing that, their coats became extremely shiney and softer-WOW!!! I also offer them Marshall's. So, what they don't get nutritionally from one food, they will get from the other varieties. My ferrets really enjoy the flavor, and they are alo very healthy.

Buyer Beware - One of the worst you can buy., 5/9/2009

    Simon from Newaygo,MI

Besides Kaytee brand this is the worst you can buy for your ferrets. Look at the first 3 ingrediants, By-product (ok but not the best),corn (terrible, terrible) and then flour base. ANY diet with corn listed in the first 3 is the worse, why? Corn provides protein which is good but unfortunately corn protein is NOT digestable by ferrets and they do not asorb enough of protein thru corn. The only good thing about this product is that it is cheap! But does price override your pets health? I would not recommend this to ANY ferret owner, look into spending a bit more, your ferret's health will thank you for it.

    Not bad, but....., 5/5/2009

    Renee from PA

I've been feeding this to my 5 ferrets for months thinking that it HAD to be really good because it's made specifically for ferrets. I did notice that 2 of my ferrets have lost weight since switching to this food. I read another review that said the same thing. I think I'll be looking for a new food now also. The price on here is much better than PETCO though. Their cost for a 5 lb. bag is $15.99.

    Sandra from Clarksville TN

My ferrets love the food but i am going to stop using it, i switched to this food because it was cheeper and 2 of my babies lost weight. I did some research and i read that ferrets need atleast 18% in there diet and this food only has 15%, so i think i willso some shopping around for something that is better suited for them.

I was paying 12.00 for a five pound bag at the local pet shops. but here I pay 18.39 for a twenty pound bag. definitly worth it. My fuzzies love it and are really healthy, with very soft fur.

I have 3 ferrets and they ALL love this food. One of them won't eat anything else and other foods make my boy sick, so this is a happy medium for everyone. They should make the Ultimate in a 20 lb. bag, but can't be too picky. I usually get a 5 lb. bag every week and a half at Petsmart for $11.00, so this is a GREAT buy!

    sacha from Portland, Oregon

8 in 1 rocks! I weened two of my ferrets off of kitten food when I adopted them and was very happy with the results of this food. When I went with some that was higher quality it made them sick and they stopped eating all togeter. Having corn in ferret food makes them eat more to aquire enough nutrients so I may try the 8in1 Ultimate variety.

My ferret loves this food. I've used other foods with him and always end up with an upset tummy after weaning him over. It may contain corn but I watch his diet carefully since he seems to be more sensitive, and to maintain his weight. The vet says he's healthy so doesnt seem to be that big of a problem!

    Brent from portland, Oregon

My three ferrets absolutely love this stuff. I've tried 3 or 4 other foods in the past (Zupreem, Totally Ferret, etc.) and this is the stuff that they seem to like the best, even going so far as to dig out the other food from the bowl and discard it to the side. This food also gives them nice soft, healthy fur and it doesn't smell or make their poop stink like some other foods. For the price you can't beat this stuff. Highly recommended.

Both of my ferrets only eat 8in1. Cassie only eats 8in1, but Charlie is a pig. I would highly recommend it. Even though it can be a little higher I find it to be an excellent food.
