low sides, 12/14/2011

ser art from virginia

I love this cage, but with the low side I used 1/8 in plexi glass. I drilled small holes to wire the plexi to the sides. I did the wood first but with the plexi you can do the doors too, and I can still see in. The plexi is less the half way up the side.

Bottom level pan for Ferret Nation 142, 5/19/2011

Lorraine from

I have not replaced my lower pan as of yet. But to keep them from chewing the corners, get kiln-dried 1x4 pine and make an enclosure around the edges. Use screws or Elmer's Wood Glue to hold together. Take out the top ledges and replace with kiln-dried pine..secure with wing nuts on the outside. One of my chinchillas chewed a hole in the plastic and got his left rear leg caught. $1500.00 later for the amputation to save his life. The plastic pans are great, as long as you make the surround to cover the edges. It holds in the mess, too. Hopes this helps.

Have this but need help!, 5/16/2011

Steven from Virginia Beach, VA

I recently got this pan and it's great. It fit perfect. However, my monsters are fixated on it in one corner and have chewed a whole straight thru it. So, I got another and cleaned it like crazy to make sure it had no scents but alas, 1 week and now it has yet another hole. Anyone know of a non plastic version somewhere? Any help is appreciated! Thanks! Steven

Litter pan woes, 3/24/2009

Carol O.. from Tucson AZ

I now have two two-level FN cages for my rescue. The key to the low sided litter pans is to get one or two High-Back pans, or get some Sterilite or IKEA storage boxes and cut them down in front and partly down the sides with a razor knife. Put some duct tape over the long cut in front to protect the boys' wee-wees. If the kids move them around get some 4" clamps and fasten the box in place.

had to make it my own, 2/8/2009

dan from harrisburg pa

the sides do need to be higher so i took my litter pans and cut the front step off and glues them to the pans. It works great as a high corner so they dont go over the side with their mess. i have seven and its hard to get them all to be litter trained. they are however corner trained.

Quality Great, Could Be Taller Options Though, 9/28/2008

Hallifax from Orange, CA

In agreement with some of the reviews below, the pans are low; however, the key to these pans is having the pet litter box trained. I have 2 year-old-rats that I only recently potty trained, and did so successfully (95% of #2 makes it to the box). This prevents the potty from going everywhere. I do wish there were trays with higher sides to potentially use paper bedding materials though, as my ladies mark everywhere. Still a great product.

Great cage, 7/28/2008

gandco from Iowa

This is the best cage on the market. We were on the waiting list when this cage first came out on the market and it has been the best addition we have made to our ferret collection. I am happy to see that there is a replacement tray available now. We keep our tray covered with a ferret blanket and it keeps the trays in almost as good as new condition. After probably at least 3 years of use one of the trays has finally cracked and needs to be replaced but otherwise the cage is great. As far as the sides not being high enough to keep ferret acidents within the cage, we use a large litter pan on the bottom level and we do not have any accidents to speak of.

Pans for Nation large cage, 6/3/2008

Devorah from Tn

The cage is very nice, altho we cannot use it because the pans are not high enough, when they potty it goes all on bars and the floor. It would be nice if they were higher on the sides so this would'nt happen! Like the cage, but it sits in basement because with pans being so low it makes a terrible mess!

Finally!!, 2/19/2008

Michelle from AZ

Im so glad to see they are offering this now it was the only thing I was worried about with the ferret nation cage after having mine for a year now the pans were looking kinda shabby with some "accident" stains that just wont go away so being able to replace it means I will only use ferret nation cages!
